The 12th UNWTO Asia/Pacific Executive Training Programme on Tourism

Minister of State for Tourism, Government of India K. J. Alphons inaugurated the 12th UNWTO Asia/Pacific Executive Training Programme on Tourism Policy and Strategy at The Leela Raviz in Kovalam on 18th March 2018. The event is co-organized by UNWTO, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Republic of Korea.

 

Welcoming the gathering, Suman Billa, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India viewed that there is no other sector in the world that is impacted by technology as much as tourism and hence the topic is very relevant. During his Presidential address, Minister of Co-operation, Tourism and Devaswoms Kadakampally Surendran, said that Kerala is one of the first destinations in India that harnessed technology for promoting tourism. Xu-Jing, Director of Regional Programme for Asia and Pacific, UNWTO said that the training programme on Tourism Policy and Strategy is an iconic initiative and event in the region of Asia and Pacific. In the inaugural speech, Minister of State for Tourism, Government of India K. J. Alphons expressed that India intends to provide a transformational experience to the tourists visiting the country. Yu Byung Chae, Director of Tourism Industry Policy Division, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Republic of Korea viewed that the Korean government takes initiatives to support tourism venture companies and that most of them are related to high-end technology. Thanking the attendees Rani George, IAS, Secretary, Kerala Tourism said that Kerala Tourism is utilizing technology to enhance visitor experience through various mobile applications for delivery of services. A cultural performance was held at the venue at the end of the inaugural function.

 

The training programme is from March 19th to 22nd, 2018. Several leaders from the tourism field would be at the training sessions speaking on topics covering technology and tourism. The topics at the training programme include ‘Good Practices in Destination Management and Operations through the Application of Transformative Technological Solutions’ and ‘Tourism and Technology: Challenges and Opportunities’.IMG-20180318-WA0058
